The Electric Autolite Company's January business was 188 per cent. over the corresponding month of last year. The stock closed at 30 January paper board production was 20 per cent, over the name month of 1938, whilst unfilled orders have increased. The week's gain in carloadings is above seasonal. Engineering construction awards are down. sharply. The price of lead has been raised.

The Socony-Vacuum Corporation's 1830 carnings are esti mated at between $0.80 and $0.00. The profits are at. present below those of last year.

Brazilian bonds are up on President Konsevelt's recommen- dation to place $50,000,000 worth of gold at the disposal of the Export and Import Bank of Brazil to extend credits. in order to free the exchange market for commercial transactions.
