THE protection of Anglo-French interests in view of the landing of the Japanese forces in Hainan was referred to in a question in the House of Commons re- cently as follows:

Sir John Wardlaw-Milne asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that Japanese forces have been landed on the island of Hainan; and whether he will immediately consult with the French Government with o view to the joint protection of Anglo- French interests?
