OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE NON-WINNERS IN TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME
The racing to take place this afternoon will conclude the annual carnival, which this year has been held in glorious weather. The track has been very dry-as evidenced by the great amount of dust kicked up by the ponies as they race-and fast times have been recorded, though no more records have fallen since the sensational start last Saturday morning.

Rose Elect, Mr. Eu Tong-sen's pony, is undoubtedly "Queen of the Carnival with her triple' triumph in the Malden Stakes, Hongkong Derby and the Champion Stakes. That her triumph was complete in the first two-named events there can be no doubt at all; but one wonders what might have happened in the Cham- plans had Desert Chiet not belonged, to the same stable? It was fairly evident to all those watching the race that Desert Chief still had

In the races to-day, the average pontes will have their chances of paying for their unkeep, as several. events are for ponies which have started in at least two raees and have not won. The Nil Desperandumn Stakes is one of them, and the event has been split into two sections, Grand which gives some of the not-so-good a greater hope of finishing up the carnival with some sort of return for their owners.

Lucky Lad looks almost a certain- ty for the Australian Ponies' Cham- plons, She ran extremely well in her last outing.
Will Triumphant Day repeat her trlumph? It is hardly likely that she will beat Lucky Lad or Lanca- shire Chips, but it has to be remem- bered that when she won to pay the highest dividend of the meeting $115 she was pushed right from the start by her jockey, Mr. L B. Chao, and yet finished so strongly 'that she left the rest of the Geld be hind in the last 100 yards.
Children will be admitted to the |stands-to-day, but they must be 'ac-
