Magistrate Thinks Should Be Inquiry
Serious allegations made by the complainant against a member of the Police Force during the hearing of a case at the Central Magistracy yesterday, led to Mr. R. A. D. Forrest, the Senior Magistrate, before whom the case was heard, making a statement in which he expressed the hope that the Hongkong Police would hold a public inquiry in order to clear its name of the allegations made.
The complainant. Mo Yung, aj nightzoit coolie, alleged during his evidence in a case against Cheung) Sze, 33, unemployed, who was charg- ed with larceny of $2.00 from him at Wanchal on February 1, that he had been assaulted by ʼn Chinese detective inside; Wanchai police station.
"I think it is a very bad state of affairs indeed, if things like this can occur in police station," the Magistrate sid. "It will make people have a fundamental distrust of the administration of justice, and will make prosecutions a farce, if persons can be intimidated into com- ing Into Court and moking admission of their gulit.
