ROSE ELECT IS CERTAINTY FOR THE CHAMPIONS

MR. EU'S PONY IS FAVOURED BY MANY EXPERTS

Main race to-day, of course, is the Champion Stakes, which will be run at 4 p.m. The illness of Silkylight, necessitating scratching from all events, has, howovor, taken away most of the interest in the event, which will almost certainly go to Rose Elect.

It will probably be agreed that there is no serious contender for Rose Elect, the Derby winner, with Silky light, fast year's winner of the Derby and Champlons, out of the race. Hose Elect's easy win over Navylight in the Derby on Monday atumps it as one worthy of following! the footsteps of those many ponies which, in the past, have won both the Derby and the Champlons in

Silkylight won the Pekin Plate yesterday In rather slow time wind King's Warden and Wild Life, but she had little to spare in the end. King's Warden made a strong challenge, but the lead established by Pote-Hunt, on Silkylight, proved sufficient for his pony to win withog having to go all out in the last 100 yards,

DOUBT DISPELLED

Before the Derby event, the only doubt yarding Rose Elect's ability was whether she could stay the dis- tance of

Benny Lynch Disappears From Camp

Found Lying on Moor, Clad in Pyjamas

Edinburgh, Jan. 21. Benny Lynch woa misaing for five hours from his training camp at Carbeth, Stirlingshire, Inte last night and early to-day, and wns even- tually found suffering from severe exposure.

When he disappeared shortly be fore 10 o'clock, he was wearing only pyjamas and silppers, and some con- cern was felt for his safety. Search parties, which luctuded polies, scour- ed the surrounding hills, and found the ex-champion lying behind a hedge on a moor half a mile from the hut:

Lynch was carried back to his quarters, where his feet were fount to be cut and bleeding.

Dr. Dan Millar, of the Dritish Box- ing Board of Control, was summoned from Glasgow, and be trented Lynch for exposure.

Police from Blanefield, Clydebank, and Milngavie co-operated in the search.

Lynch this morning was stili at the hut, and it was stated that his Dr. condition Will sallsfactory. Miliar said that it would not be long before he was back to normal.

Carbeth is a rather remote place, and Lynch went there a few days ago for light training, accompanied by Frank

the Kenny,

Scottlati fealber-weight champion, who is. preparing for a title fight on Febru- ary 1.

ALMOST UNCONSCIOUS

When Lynch was found this morn- ing, says a later message from Glasgow correspondent, the nearch parly had given up the job of cour- ing the hillside for him. "Tim" M'Mahon, a Clydebank sportsman, who was the hut where the boxer was training, decided to have look round. He went out, and in

n

Tagt

thick grass and bracken a few dred yards from the hut, found

on Benny almost unconscious hla hands and knees and muttering. He called to the rest of the party, and Benny was taken back to the hut.

The boxer had suffered severely from exposure, and he had to be massaged for almost on hour to re- store circulation. A heayy sleeping draught was later administered, and

his direction in the dark und was walking round in circles looking for the hut,' herald. "Benny had risen from bed at nine o'clock to get out for a minute, but in the com- plete darkness he lost his bearings, und when found he was almost "all-in."

--"MIGHT HAVE BEEN. DEAD"

John Kelly, Lynch's trainer, said that if M'Mahon had not made his lucky discovery he thought Benny would have been dead by this morn- frozen Ing. Benny was absolutely stiff when we brought him in und It needed ave hot orange drinks and many hot towels before we could Ket him heated up again."

It is understood making a

although

a speedy recovery towards his former fighting condition, Lynch during the past three nights has not been steeping well.

Lynch's trainer said, that Benny had been examined this morning and was suffering no especially ill effects that rest would not overcome.
