CANTON RIVER AGREEMENT REACHED

THE ANNOUNCEMENT that, though an agreement had been reached for improved river facilities between Hongkong and Canton, the Pearl River was still in- definitely closed to general traffic was made by the Japan- ese Acting Consul-General, Mr. Oda, this afternoon.

UNITED STATES consular officials have protested to the Japanese

authorities here regarding the forcible election of the Da Pont de Nemour's offices, which the Japanese army occupied on February 26, when they beat a Chinese employee who refused to hand over the keys.

The Du Pont representative, Mr. F. Baphold sald he was informed that Japanese commercial interests were desirous of utilizing the Du Pont office.

As a final compromise. Du Pont will find new offices, while the Japanese army will pay for expenses involved in moving---United Press.

Japanese Immigration Law Revision

TOKYO, March 1.

THE GOVERNMENT is planning to revise the Im-

migration Law enacted in January, 1918, restricting the entry of foreigners who arrive in Japan without duc papera, it is authoritatively revealed.

The principle of reciprocity will be undesirable or smugglers or those observed under the revised act, which who have violated the Immigration provides that all foreigners staying į Regulations-Domei, in the country more than 30 days must apply to Prefectural authorit- ies for permission and pay a Yen 10 fee for it.
