Training College Opening TO - MORROW

In September

By September, a Teachers' Train- the ing College will be opened in former Medleni OMeers' Quarters at the old Government Civil Hospital. and some 50 student trachers will be receiving instruction there, it was learned yesterday.

This news confirmation of the fact that Government have accepted; in general the recommendations of the Commission, appoluted to study the question of training local teach

ers.

Mr. C. G. Sollis, Director of Edu- ration, said yesterday that altera- tions were being made to old quar- lers at the G.C.I., and a curriculum was being worked out which would enable the centre to open in Sep- lember with 50 student teachers.i Later it was hoped to get a more! suitable building for this tuition, so that proper provision could be made for instruction In physical training, arts and crafts, and other subjects enlling for special equipment.

The present proposal concerned! only the tuition of urban teachers, the Commission's suggestions for rural teachers not being proceeded! with yet by Government.

It was intended to commence the new College with 25 Anglo-Chinese student teachers (Chinese who would! teach in English-speaking schools), und 25 Vernacular student teachers. who would teach in the Chinese ver- nocular schools. All those taken in will be non-graduates, the graduates of the Hangitong University already having their own courses of trainnig for would-be teachers.

The Directer of Education will ap- point a member of the Education De- partment to take charge of the Col-1 lege.
