The Air France plane reached Hongkong yesterday shortly after 1 p.m. with passengers and mail from Hanol.

Lone Naval Officer Goes To Kuling

Shanghai, Feb, 17. Messages have at last been received regarding the fate of the Europeans entrapped in Kuling.

A message which reached Nan- chang and Chungking before bring picked up by the U.S.S. Ohao, which is at Klukiang, stated that foreigners in Kuting had received the Japanese suggestion brondenst from Shanghat wireless station to evacuate the tow}}, Some of them were willing to leave, provided the meetssary arrangement: could be made.

The Chinese military authorities in Kuling, the anessage added. have cancelled

un cariler arrangement enabling five foreigners to go from Kiukliang ta Kuling. and have

intimated that they will allow only une for

foreigner to get through from Kiuklang.

Lieut-Commander Jeffs, in com- mand of the Ohao, will therefore sei out alone to-day for Kuling in the hope of being able to arrange for the evacuation of the Europeans.
