This morning, at the Kowloon Magistracy, Mr. Q. A. A. Macfadyen imposed a sentence of six months' hard fabour and 10 strokes of the cane on a man named Li Teng, 22, who admitted having snatched a pair of gold earrings, set with seven pearls and said to be worth $12, from a 47-year-old woman who was walk- ing In Yaumati, Kowloon, on Feb- ruary 2.
Li escaped immediate arrest, but was taken into custody a few days following police enquiries.
The woman's ears were slightly torn by the snatching, and in Impos- ing the sentence, Mr. Macfadyon remarked that as the woman had suffered so had Li also.
