Congress Warned Of Gravity Of

Situation On Continent

NEW YORK, FEB. 1. WAVE OF EXCITEMENT HAS GRIPPED THE UNITED STATES AT THE REPORTS THAT PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT HAS PLEDGED AMERICAN' SUP- PORT TO DEMOCRACY IN THE CASE OF A WAR WITH THE TOTALITARIANS.

Great prominence is given in newspapers throughout the country to the report.

The "Herald-Tribune" and "New York Times" avow that the President has indicated to the Military Affairs Committee that the United States is ready to do everything possible to aid France and Great Britain short of going to war.

Frontier In France

President Roosevelt is said to have declared that just as Great Britain's front line is on the Rhine, America's front line is now in France.
