CORONEL COMPLETELY RAZED BY ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE

SANTIAGO, JAN. 30.

NEW EARTH TREMORS ARE REPORTED FROM THE QUAKE

ZONE AS OFFICIALS FORECAST THAT THE TOTAL DEAD REACHED THE ASTOUNDING FIGURE OF 50,000.

In addition to the Chillan tremor, it is announced from Concepcion that all houses, and buildings in the coal-mining town of Corenel were destroyed by an earthquake at 10.45 p.m. on Sunday-the same time as the Chillan tremor was felt.

The first report said that there were no victims, and it was therefore assumed that the residents, as a precaution, had slept out of doors. FEARS OF DISASTER

However, with confirmation that the quake was severe enough to raze the entire township, gravest fears have been aroused that a further disaster might have, occurred in regions with which communications continue to be very difficult.

ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE RECORDED

Epicentre Believed Near N. Zealand

THE ROYAL OBSERVA- TORY in Hongkong has recorded, a major earthquake of great in- tensity.

It is also added that the suffer-

ing thousands of refugees are | being removed as fact as possible from regions such as Chilan, where the stench from corpses has caused the soldiers urgently- to request gasmasks.

While the unburled dead lay in the streets, or buried beneath debris, and great fissures in the roads continue i paralyse notor traffle, heavy rain has begun suddenly in the midst of the usually dry season.
