A Party
FACTS TO REMEMBER
AN
N ordinary hostess who gives her parties in her own drawing- room can get along quite nicely with- out an expert knowledgo of acous- tica..
But ones her party grows beyond the small type, once she takes a room int or hotel, or even gives a musleal party in her own home, there are one or two selentific facts about people in the mass that are useful to know.
For instance, did you know that from a sound point of view, a room full of wasnes is more "dead" than Women, with a room full of men? their loosely-dressed hair and elabor- ate evening dresses absorb sound and detract from the clearness of a singer's or speaker's voice. A hall that seems all right empty or with an zullence of men may be dull and dlleult when it is filled with women. More care must be paid to acoustics for women, and more care must be paid to healing.
It is a strange fact, but true, that while women can retain lent longer than men, they do keep it to them- relves. Men radinte heat, so much rn that ten men give off as much warinth as a small radiator. A room or a hall for a male audience may become insufferably warm in an hour or two, and it does not require the rame degree of artificial heat as the same room for an audience of women, In a private house both acoustics and heating can be varied remark- auty by the type of furnishing the bastess has chosen. Music is dulled considerably by thick carpets Atted- to the walls and by heavy folded cur- tains. A pluno or a gramophone standing on a carpet does not give the pure nate of the same instrument with its feet on the polished floor. Music in the drawing-room is clearer on a summer evening when the net curtains drape the windows than in the winter when the dark velour is up.
Undraped windows throw back sound; heavy curtains suck it up like a sponge.

Tea As Tonic
TEA la a wonderful beverage pro-
vided we use it properly.
It is a stimulant and serves a good purpose if taken in moderation, but ten "without trimmings" is more; it 13 remedial.
The man who called at our house complained the other day of "a head
to split."
A cup of good strong tea would put him right I told him and offered to prepare it
"No. tea wouldn't do any good." He'd had it twice that morning`al- rendy.
How often did he take tea in a day?
He had it at six o'clock when he got up; at breakfast, after tin, when he finished for the day, and again at dinner.
Five times!
الله
"But the wife has it twice oftener than that. She has a cup in the fore- noon and a cup when the bairns get lume in the afternoon," he remarked,
How did he take his tea?
With plenty of sugar and milk." Did he ever fry to take it without either when he had headache? Oh, no he couldn't-but he'd swal low powders or tablets,
Generally speaking, we take all our food too hot; but a cup of fairly strong, really hot ten taken in good big gulps with n paure between each gulp is most beneficial in cases of
endnche or sickness,
in cases of nervous or sick head- nche, hot tea, without sugar and milk (or Fream) will, almost invariably effect a cure. During influenza, the palate sometimes becomes viliated and many people turn from tea, but if they would try to take it plain they would find that It would nof nauseale but act as a stimulant.
