Trench Sinking In Gardens

WHERE SPACE is available as in a garden, a trench provides excellent protection except against direct hits.

In order that the trench shall be clear of any chance of being buried under wreckage it should be at least 20 fect from a building.

'Not Guilty' Verdict In Murder Trial

A Look Through The "Telegraph”

European skilled labour will in all likelihood find ample employment and reward in the rallway and mining Enterprises of China during the last decade of this century, and the next rentury will witness the grand trans- formation of vast Cathay into one of the most

progressive nations of the World. In view of these contingencter, which are by no means remote or in- probable, we think the young geneTA- tion should take time by the forelock and earnestly prepare themselves for the coming erents. Teachern, school managers, and tutors generally should abandon the fossilised methods and pro- grammes of tuition enforced a century nge, and take to there modern and prae- tical systems of teaching.

When we have witnessed a prizo dis. fribution in this colony at which the skilled accountant, engånger, navigator, miner, or industrial student shall be awarded a prize for his achievements in the profession he has chosen to follow, then, and not until them, we many congratulate our schools on their eficiency A training establishments, and on their general subserviency to the public weal.
