Which is all very wrong! For eating is a serious business and the children should learn from babyhood that there must be no play at mealtimes.

Encourage them to concentrate on their food, chewing this well and not dawdling between mouthfuls, or jump- ing up and down from the table.

All distractions must wait until afterwards. Anything which tends to hold baby's attention away from ble meal will cause him to keep the food unchewed in his mouth until he swallows it wholesale.

It's the same with older children.

Woman's figure always looks

more beautiful when her neek is attractive. It gives both the head and shoulders distinction. Further, the bend seems to move more grace- fully on a suple neck; it does it al- most unconsciously, like a flower on a graceful, instead of a If stalk. So give a little thought to the cultiva tion of a lovely neck.

One of the things to aim at is whiteness. Many a neck is sallow or discoloured, and this is quite fre- quently due to careless washing. The neck should be profusely lathered with a good fatty soap, Uien still more profusely rinsed in clear water. You should remember that the neck nerds energeile washing, for it is ex- posed to the atmosphere and catches the dust. A bleaching lotion is also a good friend, especially for necks which have been allowed to become neglected. There arc mony CX- cellent bleaching Jotions on the market to-day.

The important thing with all call dren is to tench them that mealtimes are special occasions, not just unwel come interruptions, during which the sense of taste and a proper enjoy. ment of food, so necessary to health, is developed.

Good Digestions

If you do this, you'll find them less finicky about their food and, provided the menu is good, they'll grow up with good digestions.

To-day, I am discussing one or two digestive disturbing troubles among children, chic or which in neidosis or "Int-dyspepain."

Although it usually makes ite ap pearance from the age of three or four onwards. It is often met among todd iera and young babies.

Bilious Attacks

These te patients are unable to cope with much fat, and any excess is followed by vomiting, the attack often being accompanied by a sharp rise in temperature and signs of distress.

Acidosis should not be regarded as a complaint "on its own," but as n symptom of other troubles such as early rheumatism or diseased tonsils; it often clears up rapidly once these conditions have been treated.

The sudden "billous nitacks from slch many highly-strung children suffer can usually be traced to ch cal changes in the system which arbe when ang mental disturbance occurs, perhaps through excitement in antici- pation of a trent.

Buch children need a fairly fat-free diet for a few months followed by the very gradual reintroduction of fata

later; they also need plenty of sugar- chiefly in the form of glucose-to make up the glycogen stores in the liver.

Teething Trouble

years ago When wise dietetic methods were not so well under- stood by our mothers.

Still, we saw two of that kind at this special clinic. In both cases the trouble was traced to irregular feeding. The mothers were very young and were trying to get all the fun they could out of life, but of unfortunately at the expense their bables' health. We were quite sure, however, that they had falled to realise this important pulut un- tl it was pointed out.

The baby that is fed at Irregulat hours will never thrive properly and again the baby whose diet in al- balanced will never make proper pro gress

Under Weight-

When bables fall to put on weight properly, have constipated motions and bear in their expression a characteris tically old and wise look, one can al- ways suspect under-feeding, irregular feeding of ill-balanced feed.

I knew one baby who was nalf- starved for weeks simply because it wan not strong enough to suck at a hard teat in which the hole was too small. Quite often the trouble Bes in the opposite direction and baby is being over-fed.

Several such cases were examined by- our doctor. Most of the babies had n dirty tongue, a greyish tinge of the skin and Rabby musca and their tempera. tures were alightly above normal.

In each case the treatment suggested varied a little, though all included a readjustment of the method of feeding. I still be only too pleased to hear from any mothers who would like n ittle personal advice on this subject, The following letter is from a reader who has a special mealtime problem.
