The compilation of a ranking list of British profes- sionals for 1938 is complicated by reason of the method adopted by the Professional Golfers' Association in arriv- ing at the champion of the year, writes a special corres- pondent in the Observer.
The distinction goes to Cotton, who is awarded the Vardon Memorial Trophy, the winning of which is based on averages for a minimum number of rounds in certain specified score events.
