PLAY CLEANED UP AND PENALTY
AREA OBSTRUCTION STOPPED
--Says Scottish F.A.
By Charles Buchan
For the time being the interpretation of the new charging rule has been left in abeyance. Referees are carrying on in the old sweet way, but I understand that the subject is still com- manding a lot of attention from the authorities.
Officials of the F.A. are not satisfied with the present way the charging law is working out. The Scottish F.A. gave instruc- tions in August that the law was to be interpreted in the strict sense and when asked the other day how it was working replied: "It has cleaned up play and stopped obstruction in the penalty
area.
*
Realising that this is a step in the right direction, our F.A. intends to look further into the matter. I gather they look favourably on the idea of coming into line with Scotland, though there may be a little afteration in the wording of the law, the intention being to make it plain when and where charging is permissible. I shall be very glad if they decide next season to || limit charging to those players attempting to play the ball.

INTERNATIONAL GAMES START
On the Army ground at Sookum- poo the first rounds of the Interna- tional Rugby Tournament are to be played to-morrow, and some good football should be witnessed, as four strong sides are being put into the field,
At 2.45 pm. England mect Ireland. As the fermer is riding # very strong back division, they should come out on top, but much depends on whether their forwards are able to obtain the ball as there is not much to choose between the Lwo packs.
At 4 p.m. Scotland play Wales, and is the two sides are fairly evenly matched the game should prove to be a very Interesting one. Scotland have possibly a better side behind the serum but the Wrish three- quarters should see plenty of the ball as they possess 4 very hard working pack.
