In Police Duel

Shanghai, Jan. 3.

A shooting affray took place on Monday night on the highway at the edge of the International Settlement, when a police patrol encountered six bandits who opened with pistol fire when challenged.

The police answered with a volley of G9 bullets fron sub-machine guns and sawed-off shol guns, but the bandits managed to escape by fleeing into the open country beyond the Settlement limits,

The incident took place in favourite residential quarter of Shanghai where a number of hol- ups have occurred recently.

Police are now using barbed-wire barricades to prevent bandits from entering the Settlement, and the police patrols have been augmented by the White Russan regiment of the Shanghai Volunteers, with armoured cars, as well as by British troops.
