Silkylight Again Lowers A Record
(By "Captain Foster")
The Hongkong Jockey Club closed their racing season last Saturday before one of the largest crowds ever as- sembled at Happy Valley. The dollar cash sweep counter was the chief attraction, the first prize in the opening event, the Hongkong Autumn Champions, being well over $2,000 and ticket No. 1225 was worth $5,574.80 for an out- lay of $2 in the last contest.
The nutstanding feature of the meeting was the wanderful success of the Singapore philanthropist, Mr. Eu Tong-zen, whose three nomina. tions, Lucky (with Mr. Encarnacio up), Ruse Jane (Mr. W. Poy) and Rose-Queen (Mr. S. W. Pan) finished first, second and third respectively in the Tardy Handicap for "C" class China ponies. It was a hard fought out battle, Lucky winning by a length and the same margin separated the ather two ponies. Mr. Eu Tong-sen! should feel proud of the record,
