IS your husband an intend-

Father Christmases this year
tend to be large men, aged from sixty to seventy, which is all it should be.
If you're being a Father Christ- mus, it's no good looking like an ordinary man. It's worth spending a little money on your beard and wig. Crepe hair may look all right to the grown-ups, but it doesn't fool The children.

THEN
THEN you must put plenty of grease-paint on your cheeks, remembering that drive through the snow. The hood sometimes frigh- tens the babies, so it must be easily pulled up and down.
Belted gown, hood, and shoulder- cape ought, of course, to be red flannel or serķe or some woollen stuff edged with white fur or wool.
So Santa Claus of 1908 ought to be tall and brond, genial of expres- sion, somewhere around sixty years nici. To reach perfection he should have grown and trained his beard for about five years.
Your husband may hot All this bill at all, but then the children are probably tolerant, and like him to have his fun un Christmas Eve.

New Floral
Pictures
IN these days of small flats and restricted space, there is not always room for a lavish display.
The new wall vases that are so popular now will help you to get over this difficulty. Your flower groupings will come into proper perspective again when hung upon your walls.
contrast
Choose vases that will with your wallpaper, or you will lose half the beauty of your pictures. Of-white or cream holders are best for dark walls, and coloured ones for plain erexam and buff walls.
Do not overload the vases with flowers. They are made in such in- triguing shapes and colourings that It is a pity to let the flowers hide their attractiveness. Do not build your arrangements too high, either, or they will look top-heavy, and not at all pleasing.
Four ur Ave single chrysant- hemums, a few anemones, or some Inte roses will look charming in a wall vuse, Be careful, however, that you choose your bloons as carefully ng your vases, so that they stand out nguinst their background.
Sprays of berries, leaves, and sprigs of fern and heather are ideal material with which to make these new flower decorations. And few twigs, stripped of their leaves and placed against a light wall, will have

As most of the vases taper towards the bottom, you will find it helpful to twist some rabbit wire across the top of the vase before putting in the flowers. This will keep them in position better.

So much depends on the way
you pack presents
You may think that there is
nothing to do when you have bought a present except to pack 11. Exactly. But Qie packing is very important.
Obviously the gift must be packed safely if it is to be sent by post. It is true that one of the pleasantest things about receiv ing a present is the surprise, but It's the wrong sort of surprise if your friend finds that you have sent him a parcel of fine white powder made from a particularly expensive coffee service.
Remember that a parcel sent by any form of transport is bound to get a
fearful buffeting at this time of the year.
The first essential, therefore, is some sort of wadding to absorb shocks. One of the simplest and most effective materials is cor- rugated paper.
Failing this, crumpled news- paper is onc of the most emelent shock absorbers.
Whatever packing you use, the important point is that the pro- sent should not be loose within the
parcel.
Beautiful and original packing. can add enormously to the attrac- tiveness of a gift. A few pence spent on the trimmings of even a half-crown present are a good in- vestment if you measure the value of a gift by the pleasure it gives. Now a few practical points. Never skimp white tissue paper. A few cents will buy an enorm- ous quantity at your local station- ers, and It makes any present look twice as expensive.
The box is very important. If the shop gave you one, well and good; if not, buy one. For two- pence or threepence you can get an attractive box In gilt or eliver. Christmas seals 200 another thing to make present look smart. Use them both on the in- ner and outer wrappers. If you want your surprise kept until Christmas Day liseif, you can get seals with "Do not open l December 28" on theme
