Divorce Jury Told Of Was Robin's Perch

Wife's Cruise

A SPECIAL JURY disagreed recently in a divorce case

in which a naval officer complained that his wife and an R.A.F. officer occupied cabins near cach other on a long cruise.

Lieut.-Commander Roland Charlton Allen, R.N., of Linden- gardens, Notting Hill, W., petitioned in the Divorce Court for n decreo against Mrs. Mora Allen, who lives at Pit Farm-road, Guildford.

The President, Sir Boyd Merri-1 man, discharged the jury after the foreman had reportedl that the disagreement was substantial.

Mr. Norman Birkett, K.C., had been briefed for Lieut.-Commander Allen, and Sir Patrick Hastings,) K.C., for Mrs. Allen.

Commander Allen charged his wife with misconduct with Wing Com-| munder John Valentine Steele, of the R.A.F. and claimed damages from him. The allegation denied.

The jury had been asked by Com- mander Alten to draw the inference that the visits and cruises were un- dertaken because Mrs. Allen and the Wing Commander wanted to com- mit misconduct.

It was for the jury to say whether they were affirmatively satisfied that that inference ought to be drawn. There had been no evidence of indiscreet conduct

"The classes have become ex- tremely popular.

"I spend only an hour and a halt week in the prison, but marking the men's homework takes much longer than teaching them.

They are absolute gluttons for homework and as a result make rapid progress. I find that a man knowing no French at nil usually reaches school certificate standard within a year."
