CHINESE PLANES

IN RAID ON CANTON

CANTON, Dec, 19. JAPANESE ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS went into action in Canton yesterday following the greatest air raid yet staged by the Chinese air force on the former Kwangtung capital.

Unlike the Japanese air raids of the past, the Chinese units did not molest the city, concen- trating on military objectives on the outskirta.

The Chinese planes, which en- countered no opposition frem Japan- ese machines, remained overhead for about two hours, during which time dozens of bombs were dropped on military objectives below.

Most of the detonations acemed to be occurring at White Cloud Moun- toin aerodrome, but come bombal were dropped at Salchten.
