The Governor of Kenya, Sir Robert Brooke-Popham, Intervening in debate on on unomieial motion calling on the Imperial Government to give an unequivocal ronssurance on the future of Tanganyika, in view of the repercussions that the uncer- tainty

of the position is having in Kenya, explained the difficulty that Government members would have in voling for the motion, which, he said, called on his Majeriy's Government to take a certain course of action.

The Prime Minister, Mr. M. J. Savage, announcing the Govern- inent's plans for industrial expan sion, said: "We want to buy from Great Britain, but we cannot exceed her purchases here."

The Dominion's intention, he said, was to expand existing manife- tories and to establish new Indus- tries, including the manufacture of motor tyres.

The six members of the German Himalayan Cxpedition, led by Prof Rudolf Schwärzgruber, of Vienna, who hoped to climb some of the highest peaks in the Kidsenseik runge in the Himalayas, have arrived at Mussoorie from the Gangotri area, and are returning to Europe from Bombay.

The party attempted to climb Chaukamba, one of the Badrinath peaks (23,210ft.), but failed.
