FAR EAST SERVICE OPERATION

New Planes To Speed-Up

Air Mail

With the introduction of the Ensign type of aircraft by Imperial Airways on the Far East route, a number of changes will be made in the arrangement for carry'ng mail to Egypt, India and other countries, all of which will mean a spoed-up in the delivery of the air mail to Hongkong,

At present most of the delays on the main route from London have, occurred in Indin, where the weather often is against flying. The present flying boat cervicos are to be supple- mented as far as Calcutin by land services operated over a new route.

Between London and Calcutta Im- perial Airways will operate folntly with Indian Transcontinental Air- ways, a company in which Imperial Airways has a large share-holding interest and which in the past hus operated between Karachi and Singa

pore.

To enable this to be done the optat of the company is to be trebled, and I will take over four of the lant new Ensigns for use on the Calcutta route.

At the moment, as well as flying bonts, Hannibal and Atalanta nirerafí emerale two of the services on the For East route between Alexandrin

each and Karachi,

service being operated by one machine of cach type so us to cope with the heavy mail and freight. The normal services be tween Alexandria and Sydney will continue to be operated by flying

bonts.
