HONGKONG MEN START BADLY, RECOVER WELL

(By "Abe"):

A tio in an Interport Lawn Bowls match does not seem to be a very satisfactory conclusion, especially as the rubber depends on the results of three matches; yet this was the official verdict yester day at Kowloon Docks in the first game of the present Interport Series between Hongkong and Shanghai.

At the end of 21 heads the scores werb deadlocked at 20-20, Tho majority of the spectators were wait-, ing expectantly to see an extra Head to decide the game and they were surprised to see the players shaking hands indicating that the match was

over.

From the purely playing point of view, there was so little between the two rinks that perhaps a draw was the fairest reflection of the centest. But what will be the position if Hang- kong and Shanghai each win one of Mie two games? tho rernalning Shanghai players will have come ali the way to the Colony without any definite result being reached.

ALWAYS INTERESTING Though a consistently high stand- ord was not maintained, play was always interesting. Shanghai made an excellent start and had forged ahead to 8-3 on the eighth head while

It does seem that there is a lack of unanimity of opinion on this point. The two Associa tions would do well to make a ruling, so that there will be no confusion in future.
