PORT VALE'S "PROMOTION" Port Vale, in their new sphere in the Southern Section of the Third Division, must be regarded as very much of an unknown quantity. This Is particularly so in view of the drastic stocktaking which has taken place.
The St. Joseph' goal had a narrow escape in the First Division League match against South China "A"
on Nunday. Kwok Ying-kee, the Chinese inside-left, allpped just as he was about to shoot and can be seen on the ground on the right of the picture. U. B. Souza missed the ball when he rushed out of goat, but I Souza, the left back, oblained possession and is about to kick clear-Mee Cheung.

Fourteen of last season's playing staff were not retained and have been replaced by newcomers recruit- 355, ed from League clubs. Substantial fees have been paid for some of
them.
Port Vale regard their transfer to the Southern Section as in the na- ture of a promotion, and the direc tors have done their best with limited purse to try to build a team capable of holding its own. Time will show whether they have suc- ceeded and whether the newcomers

The departures include H. Joluson (lo Hartlepoola), A. Obrey (Tran- mere), C. R. Rattray (Accrington). W. F. Tunnicliffe (Boscombe).
