THIS IS WHAT IT IS LIKE TO RIDE ON A TRAIN ROOF

-By Man Who Tried

To Save The Fare

You've seen men travelling on the roofs of trains-on the filma? Angus McLeod, 23, and out of work, living at Green Hill-park, Willesden, tried it out; in order to see Celtic foot- ball team play Rangers at Glasgow. He hadn't the £2 12., 9d. for the fare, so he tried the roof way. Below he tells his story -what it really feels like:

I climbed on to the Night Scot

at Euston. I lay flat on my

stomach, perllously near the CHURCH'S

edge, so that I could grip pipes that run along the side of the coach.

As the express pulled out the ear- ringe began to sway and jump about. Iliad to fight to keep my hold.

Then we came to the tunnels outslie Euston. Carriage after carriage slid into the darkness. I burled my head in hands, hop-

ing and praying that I should

clear the tunnel roof.

I did not dare to move while we were in it. The tunnel roof seemed about to hit me at any moment.

At last I could not walt any langer for elgaretie. I decided to take the risk, and near Leigh- ton Buzzard climbed down Into a carriage.

Every move I made was full of pitched and danger. The train rolled as we swept over the points

In the carriage I lit a cigarette, smoked it, got a bit warmer. Some He came back to my angers.

That was exactly what Christians had been saying for the last twenty years and longer.
