Lorry In House: Mother And RADIO

Two Babies Escape

A visit to the local fish-and-chip shop saved the lives of a mother and her two babies in Fermoy Road, Pad- dington, one night, recently.

They had just left their home when a G.W.R. lorry, believed to have been stolen, swung into Fermoy Road from Great Western Road, skidded and crashed into the front of the house.

A lay-window was smashed

in and the front wheels of the lorry were half-way into the house. A baby's cot in the window was smashed,

The driver of the lorry jump- ed just before the crash and ran nway.

Mrs. Nora Betts, with her two children, Irene, aged 31⁄2, and John, uged 14 months, had left the house for a few moments to call at the fish-und-chip shop at the end of the rond,

Just before the crash Mrs. Betta as talking to her next-door neigh- ur only a few yards away. AB- oter moment and she would have be in the lorry's path.

It was originated by a member of Colwyn Bay Council. He suggested that a fund, to which all Wales could contribute, should be set up to buy a mansion.
