Above is a scene from the free clinic of the recently-opened Dojin Hospital, in Nantao, which is ran by a Japanese charitable organisation operating in China and is financed by Boxer Indemnity Funds. The Nantao hospital already has about 205 in-patients and gives free clinical services to 1,000 Chinese daily. Similar hospitals have been opened in Ilangchow, Soochow and Nanking.

An impressive memorial tower, honouring Japanese war dead, is being built under the direction of the Japanese Army on the battlefield at Tasang, where last year a decisive battle was fought. The memorial, which will be' inaugurated on October 23, is being built by Chinese prisoners of war. The tower is seen under construction, with Chinese labourers at work.
