AS for modern youth to-day, Lord Tweeds- muir's tribute luckily under the category-of praise, not of flattery. The danger of flat- tery is that it may produce com- placency. The virtue of praise is that again and again it is an incitement to effort.
Modern youth certainly de- serves praise because, having been flung into a more bewilder- ed and experimental ago than has ever been known since Chris- tianity was introduced into Eng land, thousands of the young have shown qualities of intellec- tual and physical courage, that - would have ennobled any perfod in history.
