WOOD OF YORKSHIRE TO TAKE AMES: POSITION

London, Aug. 19.

The latest England Test cricketer to be injured is Douglas Wright, of Kent. While taking a catch to-day in the match between Kent and Leicestershire, the young leg-break bowler was injured in the first finger of his bowling hand." The ball struck the end of the finger and forced back the nail.

says that

Although his doctor Wright would be able to play, it is considered likely that Peler Smith,

the Essex spin bowler, will replace him in the England team.

The decision whether to play Smith will be deferred until the weather to-morrow morning is known.

A. Wood, the Yorkshire wicket- keeper, who has been knocking at the door of Test matches for a tong time, has at last got his chance. He has been invited to attend at the Oval.

Furthermore, M. S. Nichols, the Essex fast bowler, has also been in- vited to the Oval is a "precautionary

measure."
