THERE was a row in Parlia
ment recently-and the term "Omelal Secrets" played a pretty big part in it.
What exactly is an official secret? Nobody knows, precisely-the term can mean practically anything--but at the Stationery Ofice you can buy. for twopence a copy of the Ometni Secreta Act, 1011; it is nine pages
long.
For another twopence you can buy "An Act to Amend the Omell Secrets Act, 1911." This is the OMelat Secrets Act, 1920, and is twelve pages long.
This is the sort of thing you'll read:-
" any person for any purpose prejudicial to the safety or Intergats of the State makes any sketel, plan, model or note, which is calculated to be or might be or is intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy: he shall be guilty of felony, and shall be able to penal servitude

Critics of this Act say that its most objectionable feature is that it makes it possible for any one to be taken off to the police slution and cross- questioned on the authority of any policeman above the rank of inspec tur.
