Scientists' Bid To

"Finger-Print" Blood

SCIENTISTS searching for a means of "finger-

printing" blood, of making blood-tests in- fallible, may soon announce sensational dis- coveries. The tests referred to recently in disputed paternity cases are of a negative kind only. They can show positively that a man is not the father of a child, but they cannot demon- strate that he is.

The scientists concerned not make depnite promises, but one of them said that "progress is being made."

They believe that there

may be "paternal properties" in blood which, when microscopically discoverable and Isolated would yield positive proof of paternity.

When that problem is solved tests would probably be made compulsory at the request of either party in a paternity dispute, und the results accepted as conclusive,

Cape Town. Handsome James William Hodgson,

a summons

aged 22, a stockbroker's clerk, was found not guilty at the Criminal Sessions here of the murder of Louis Herman, a stockbroker, by shooting him in a pawnbroker's Herman's widow issued shop; then against Hodgson claiming £5,000 damages for the loss of her husband. Legal experts say it is the first claim of this nature in the Empire. Hodgson pleaded an alibi at the trini.
