It is, announced that Air Com- modore A. T. Harris, O.DE., A.F.C), recently serving as a member of the Air Force Mission to the United States, is appointed to the command of the R.A.F. in Palestine and Trans- jordan, in succession to Air Com- modore.R. M. HIII, M.C., A.F.C., whose appointment as Director of Technical Development was announced recent-

Air Commodore Harris. now 40, has been with the R.F.C. and RAF. since 1915 and received a permanent commission after the Wor, in which he served In France and gained the AF.C.

DIRECTORATE OF EQUIPMENT

Group Captain H. K. Thorold. 1.5.0., D.F.C., A.F.C., from the command of the R.A.F. station' at Mildenhall, 1105 been appointed to the Air Ministry to micceed Group Captain G. C. Bailey, D.so., Deputy Director of Equipment (Supply), on the latter's appointment to the Muin- tenance Command.

Group Captain Thorold, who in 42, entered the RN.A.S. from - Marl- borough in May, 1915, and was, wounded in action at the Dardanelles, where he gained the D.S.C. From 1910 he was in France, where he was awarded the A.F.C. for valuable flying services; and from 1020 in Mesopotamia, gaining the DF.C. for the Nasiriych operations.

AIR DEFENCE CADET SCHEME

Squadron Leader H. W. Woollett, pa.o., M.C., who has been appointed by the Al League of the British Empire as nera organizer for London of the newly formed Air Defence Cadet Corps and assistent ta Air

Commodore Charnier for the whole cadet scheme, served with the R.F.C. R.A.F. from 1916 to 1033. Educated at Wellingborough, he wad a medical student at the London Hospital before the War, in which he was commistioned to The Lincoin- shire Regiment. He had three periods of service in France, and gained the M.C, and Bar, the D.S.O., the Croix de Guerre with Palm, and was made. Chevalier of the Legion of Honour

The air cadet scheme aims at train. ing youths between the ages of 14 and 18 to perform useful tasks on nerodromes, in air raid precautions, and possibly in connection with balloon barrage units and the Ob- server Corps.

RAMILLIES TO BE OVERHAWLED

The battleship Ramillies, Captain E. N. Syfret, will return to Devonport on July 5, four days earlier than was previously arranged, and will reduce and de-store before being taken in hand on August 1 for large repairs, for which over £200,000 has been provided in the Navy Estimates, The Ramillies arrived - at Portland rucently from Rosyth, and was pres sent at the King's inspecilón;
