Seventy-seven-year-old Councillor T. R. Daly faced the laughter of three hundred villagers recently when he sought to Justify, before an Assistant Charity Commissioner, kis allegations that the conduct of dancers In Cobham (Surrey) Village Hall "rivalled the vices of Sodom and Gomorrah,"

Self-declared a Puritan, he spoke of drunken dancers falling would "shock any moral man," and in a stupor, of scenes that reiterated above the interruptions of his crowded audience the charges that Cobham's hall was being disgraced by outsiders and mis-managed by his colleagues.

Counciller Daly is a trustee of the hall, and it was the storm which greeted his complaints that led to a demand for his resig- nation and last night's inquiry.

The 50-year-old building was crowded as never before by. villagers, who nibbled chocolates, smoked and occasionally nudged each other as a telling point was made.

In the centre of the stage, backed by a Lattered landscape | curtain and under the glimmer of the stage lights, sat Mr. W. F. Fox, sent by the Charity Commissioners to investigate Councillor Daly's charges,

Standing at the front of the stage, within a few aches of the "dend footlights, Mi Daly declarand: "I bod #trous Paritas views
