Anton Lang, Famed

at

"Saviour' Of Oberammergau Oberammergau, May 18. Anton Lang, who portrayed the Saviour in the famous Obe- Plays for ammergau Passion over thirty years, is dead.

He was born at Oberammer- gau in 1876.-United Press.

The Passion Piny at Oberammer- gau, was instituted in 1634 in grati- tude for the abatement of a plague and was performed every ten years entirely by the peasants.

Visitors from distant places crowd- ed to see it.ond there grew up a de- mand for mementoes. The village was famous for its wood-carving and al- most every member of the community

At one time things were so bad that Lang dismissed his assistants and closed his pottery. In spite of this the village refused American offers of thousands of pounds for the film- ing rights of the Passion Play. They held it to be a incred duty to res pect

Oil From Coal Undependable For Emergency

London, May 18.

The Government has accepted the recommendations of the Falmouth Committee-- sub-Committee of the Committee of Imperial Defence heed- ed by Lord Falmouth-regarding the production of oil from coal.

The Committee recommended that

the policy of depending on imported

ol supplies in time of war, with adequate stor

storage, was the must re- ilable and economical means of pro- viding for an emergency.

It was re commended that Government place no reliance in war time on supplies of all from indigenous sources, and the grant of direct financial assist- unce for the establishment of further oil-from-coal plants should be dis- continued.

The Committee favoured the ex- tension for D further period of twelve years of the guarantee extend- ed to include diesel oil for use in motor vehicles. An increased rate from fourpence to eightpence how- ever, was recommended for this type cruel, Reuter.
