SIX MONTHS' HUNT FOR 'PYJAMAS PIMPERNEL' Prison-Breaker Eludes Police

SCOTLAND YARD detectives are still searching for

the man who bluffed his way out of Brixton Prizon, and escaped from hospital in his pyjamas vanished.

Six months ago 30-year-old John Dale, an Australian re manded in Brixton on a charge of obtaining £1,000 by means off

a trick, collapsed in apparently violent pain in his cell.

So terrible was his "ngony" that he was removed

nt once by ambulance to St. Giles' Hospital, Camber-

well, for expert medical attention.

Date had chosen bis time well. It wan Saturday night.. Luck favoured him when he was placed in a small semi-private ward on the ground floor facing the street.

His clothes were taken away from him, but he was allowed to wear his own pyjamas and dressing- ROWN. He was left in the ward, writhing and groaning.

As soon as he was alone he slipped open the window, climbed out into the street, and disappeared.

YARD SEARCH GOES ON

A day Inter Scotland Yard received a letter from Dale.

"I have only granted myself ball," he wrote. "I will appear in court on Wednesday for certain." But Date did not reappear.

The search intensified, Dale's known haunts were watched. His former companions were shadowed for weeks on end. But Dale was tua elever to appear where he was known,

Underworld rumours said that Dale and escaped from the country and had led to Australia. Cables were sent to the Austrailon police, who could and no trace of burn.

Scotland Yard now belleves that these Tumours were deliberately circulated to cause the police to relax their search.

But Scotland Yard never relaxes. Careful comb- outs are made periodically, and the Yard will continue the search wat Dale is discovered.
