Refugees Not Allowed To Enter City or Return To Interior Homes

Shanghai, May 5.

The ban placed by the Japanese authorities five days ago against Chinese entering or leaving the Japanese- occupied areas beyond the British-manned western perimeter of Shanghai, has placed thousands of Chinese war refugees in a desperate plight.

Their lives are endangered by the relentless. campaign the Japanese are waging against Chinese, guerillas.

seek These refugees fled from the interior to sanctuary in the foreign areas of Shanghai. Unable to. enter, they are facing starvation, for most of them carried barely enough food for the journey and fresh supplies are difficult to buy, even if they have money. In addition, they are without shelter and have to sleep in the fields.
