Mr. Harold Porter, C.M.G., has had a long record of Consular service in Chins. He was born in 1870 and educated at Felstead School, entering tho British Consular Service in China by competitive examination. He was in the siege of Peking in 1990, being awarded medal and clasp, and later held various consular posts in China and Korea.

He was made Vice-Consul in 1911 and Consul in 1913. He was Com- mercial Commissioner for Siberia 1918-1919; Acting Consul-General at Multden in 1924, Hankow 1925, and officiating Consul nt Harbin later in the sume year. He held the import- ant post of Consul at Hankow 1027- 28, and reslimed in 1920 to become General Manager of the Pekin Syn- diente, Ltd.
He had resided in Shanghai for a number of years, and served on the Committee of the British Residents* Association and other publie bodies. He was a Director of the North-Ching Daily News, Ltd, and has been on the Counell since 1035.
