NINE EVENTS ARRANGED FOR TO-MORROW'S MEET

Nine handicap events feature the programme of the Second Extra Race Meeting under the auspices of the Hongkong Jockey Club to be held to-morrow at Happy Valley. Judging by the allot- ment of the avoirdupois by the gentleman in charge, it looks as if we are going to have a good day's sport with a lot of thrills. In my estimation, the hardest race to spot the winner will be in the Kongmun Handicap over a mile, confined to those China sub-griffins of this season who have not crossed the wire first at the Annual Carnival; incidentally it is the second leg of the daily double with an array of 27 nominations. The first saddling bell will be rung at 1.30 p.m. sharp and a good field is almost assured in every contest.

I have before me a classification? list of the Australian and China ponica issued by the Club under date of March 15, and one would hardly believe that 17 Australian chargers are in the "A" eluss, but there is only one short in number in the "13" standard und 25 appear, in the "C" section. Among the Chin ponies. there are 15 first-class animals in-

There has been, as usual, a lot of argument over the classification of same ponies; but the criticism was not of any constructive nature. Rac- ing out in the Far East is guided by the Rules of Racing of the English Jockey Club, which is one of the Turf nuthorities of Great Britain,

The South China Morning Post's London correspondent wrote on February 18, 1937, as follows:-

"The new Jockey Club rule, to protect English horses from foreign competitors who as "unknowns" are sent on flying visits to pick up valuable prizes in handicap events, has been praised.
