In a final communique issued last night from Military Headquarters, it was announced that the combined manoeuvres carried out during last week-end were vory successful.

The purpose of the manoeuvres, the communique states, was not to allocate success or defent to elther attackers or defenders, and this was not done, the operations being terminated on Monday morning at the moment when the attack by the enemy infantry on the centre sector of the defence was adjudged to have been hatted.

The object of the operations was primarily to train and practise the garrison in their duties and to discover their 'shortcomings. In this regard several important lessons were

learned.

The communique, which also gives a brief capitulation of the course of events during the attack, states:
