After a meeting this evening of Mr. Neville Chamberlain and Sir Thomas Inskip, Minister for the Co-Ordination of Defence, with the full General Council of the Trade Union Congress, a communique was issued which stated:

"The Prime Minister told the Congress representa- tives that he did not intend to submit specific proposals to secure the acceleration of the defence programme the Government required. It is for the leaders of the different sections of industry, employers and employees, to discuss ways in which they can best give the Govern- ment the assistance needed.

"The Premier said that the object of meeting the General Council was to ask its goodwill and help, and to express confidence that with its knowledge of the issues at stake, it will accede to his request.

"The Trades Unlun Council under-1 took to give the Premiers's important statement careful consideration at the earlier possible date."

Liol, Shuntung, Mar. 24. corpses of eight Liuchlu soldiers in the Japanese army who committed suicide by hanging them selves were found at Tangtouchen by Chinese troops under the command of General Pang Ping-hsun yesterday.

A silp of paper found on one of the corpses states that they were natives of the Liuchiu Islands which were formerly a Chinese dependency but were annexed by Japan during the Ching dynasty, and that they would not fight against their fatherland- Central News.

Three hundred Chinese ex-soldiers, who were interned in the concentration camp in French Concession, and who had since taken refuge in the Concession after the evacuation of Nantao four months ago, revolted, last night.

With the aid of smuggled arms, knives and clubs, they tried to hack their way through the barbed wire fence round the camp and to overcome the guards.

Several shots were fired, and one Tonkingese French policeman was killed, while between 20 and 30 Chinese escaped before order was restored.
