It is announced that many Japanese prisoners were taken during the battles around Linyi, in south-eastern Shantung.

One of the prisoners has admitted the terrible Japanese losses. He said: "Our unit consisted of 9,000 infantrymen, 500 cavalrymen, 20 tanks, 60 armoured trucks, ten aeroplanes and 30 artillery pieces. We belonged to the Fifth Division.

"Our casualties on the banks of the Yi Riyer were 3,000, including many officers.
