IRISHMEN GATHER
St. Patrick's Ball
At Peninsula
It was the Irish in the Colony that came out last night when several hundreds gathered with their friends and distinguished Metal guests at the Peninsula Hotel to honour the memory of their Patron Saint at St. Patrick's Bali.
The familiar Roof Garden and Roso Room were transtórmed for the occasion. Blarney Castle towered nearly to the celling at one end, from the dots hung the shield of nrms of the four Provinces of Ireland quar- tered; and everywhere Buttered the flogs of the Irish Free State, the Union Jacle and many others.
His Excellency the Governor head-; ed a long list of distinguished guests which included Vice-Admiral Sir Percy Noble and Major-Gen.__and] Mrs. A. W. Bartholomew. They ivere received by the President of St. Patrick's Society, Dr. G. W. Pope, Mrs. Pope, and other offelals..
The facade of the Hotel was flood- Hit for the occasion and across the front the words Cacd Mile Failte (A hundred thousand welcomes) stood out as a Gaelle greeting to the guests. About them were clusters of green, white and gold lights in the colours of the Irish Free State, the scheme being generously used over the front of the building.
From the roof were flying the Cross of St. Patrick, the Union Jack, the Irish Free State flag and the old green Irish flag bearing the golden harp.
THE DECORATIONS
The dala was placed in the south corner of the Rocf Garden, its main feature being the giant shield with the arms of the four Provinces.
Over the front of the dais appeared the words, Erin go bragh (Ireland for ever).
The prevailing blue of the ball room was overcome by hanging green and yellow streamers which were also spiralling the columns. On the capitals were the coats of arms of Irish cities and the four Provinces, the two pillars flanking the dais bearing the arms of Belfast and
Dublin.
