GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Mrs. Whyte Smith Wins
Title For 1938
Mrs. Whyte Smith won the women's Golf Championshp of the Colony for 1038, beating Mrs. Mc- Gowan one up in the final, which was played on the Old Course at Fanling on Thursday.
The weather conditions were most trying, rain falling heavily during the first four holes. The features of the match were good driving and long approach shots,
Mrs. Whyte Smith, playing steadi- ty, was two up at the fifth, bui Mrs. McGowan, with three good holes in succession, drew level at the turn,
the players being level on the 18th Piny was even for the second half,
tee. This hole praved disastrous
for Mrs. McGowan as her approach shot was trapped in the bunker guarding the green and she falled to get out at the first attempt. The match was umpired by Mrs. Forbes.
This is the second occasion upon which Mrs. Whyte Smith has secur ed the championship, the previous one being in 1923.
