This shining four-storey concrete and glass building will soon be rising on Birmingham's now £500,000 muncipal airport at Elmdon, on the city borders. Work has bogun, and it is claimed the building, of striking design, will be the most modern in the country, On either side are spreading concrete canopies, beneath which planes will load and discharge under cover. the usual Customs department and offices there will be public terraces and refreshment rooms, and bedrooms, mainly for the staff. A In addition to control tower on the fourth floor has been designed on the assumption that Birmingham will be given a full communication area of its own, There is to be full night-flying equipment. It is expected that the airport will be-in use by the end of the year.
