Stormy sky and sun-flecked salls, wind-whipped spray and a heaving soa — all go to make this fine picture, taken in Sydney Harbour during a world championship raco for 18-footers. The race formed part of the 150th anniversary colabrations.

This shining four-storey concreto and glass building will soon be rising on Birmingham's new £500,000 muncipal airport at Elmdon, on the city borders. Work has begun, and it is claimed the building, of striking design, will be the most modern in the country. On either side are spreading concrete canopies, beneath which planes wilkload and dischargo under cover. In addition to the usual Customs department and offices there will be public terraces and refreshment rooms, and bedrooms, mainly for the staff. A control tower on the fourth floor has bean designed on the assumption that Birmingham will be given a full communication area of its own. There is to be full night-flying equipment. It is expected that the airport will be in uso by the end of the year.
