ISLINGTON CORINTHIANS BEAT ALL LOCAL TEAMS
CIVILIAN FORWARDS FAIL
TO PENETRATE TOURISTS' DEFENCE
PENALTY GIVES LOCAL MEN THEIR SOLITARY POINT
(By "Abo")
When the Civilians commenced their match against the Islington Corinthians on Saturday at Caroline Hill by attacking, they raised the hope that they might be the first team to extend the tourists in the Colony. This hope was not realised, however, and the Corinthians went on to win fairly comfortably by three goals to one.
The game had to moments of} thrills, especially when the Civilian forwards got away a few times, but
the local apposition on the whole was
not strong enough to make the Islington Corinthians'
visitors give of their best.

a better exter game than he has done for a long whlic, and Howlett was clever withi the ball, but there was little ro- ordination in the line.

Is Lee Wai-tong To Play Again ?
(By "Abe").
Mr. Wong Ka-tsun, the General Secretary of the South China A.A., told me yesterday that a return match between
South China and the Islington Corinthians will be played when the tourists come back from their visit to Manila.
He also said that he would make an attempt to persuado Lee Wai-tong to turn out.
Lee told me some weeks ago that he definitely would not play against the Corinthians as his leg was not yet strong enough. But it appears that he is now uncertain. Will Mr. Wong succeed in making him take the field again?

COLONY ELEVEN FALTER AFTER A FINE START
THRILLING SOCCER IN FIRST HALF OF MATCH
(By "Abe")
The Islington Corinthians complated the rout of local teams in their official programme in Hongkong when they trounced the Colony XI yesterday at Caroline Hill by five goals to one. Local hopes soared when Fung King-cheung scored in the first few min- utes but the tourists fought back splendidly and were decidedly the better team in the second half.
The final score perhaps flattered | rate, they might have managed to the Corinthione who, though they draw the game. were superior in the closing stages, The Corinthians again featured did not deserve to be 3-1 in the lend their game with fine positional play, at the interval. Furthermore, the and their greater speed and greater local players were extremely unfor- niness told in the end. Whereas all five Corinthian forwards. attacked in unison, the Colony men seldom made concerted efforts. And whereas the Corinthian wing-halves Invariably went up to support the forwards in the attack, Williamson and Leung Wing-chiu were too in- tent-on defending to give much help to the forwards.
Two changes were made in the Colony team. Chris Pile, of the Polles, was included in the place of Ulrich, of Kowloon, who is under- slood to be Indisposed, and Bright of the Middlesex came in for Lau Hing- choi.
While Bright played the game of his to at céntre-half, Plie was un- j certain at left back and failed to hold Read and. Tarrant in check. If any fault could be found with Bright at all, it was that he did not give more ground passes to his forwards instead of putting the ball in the air in view of the superiority of the
Corinthians overhead.
STERN OPPOSITION
QUICK IN RECOVERY
Williamson and Leung, however, could hardly be blamed for not mov- up with the forwards because the Corinthians were so quick in their recoveries that had the Colony wing-halves gone up to assist the forwards, the defence would have been considerably weakened when the tourists broke away,
