Only One Match
For Melbourne
The Australian Cricket Board of Control announced on January 28 that only one Test match will be played In Melbourne when the English team vicits Australia in 1940.
This is a surprising decision in view of the huge attendances which were attracted to the ground for the third and fifth Testa against G. O. Allen's team last year.
The third Tert had an aggregate altendance of 349.534, and, the gate receipts were £29,000, a world's record.
Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane have been allotted one match and Sydney two.

£1,000 To Be Spent On Ground Repairs Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club lost £2,712 on their working for the year ended Dec. 31, and they enter upon the centenary year of the Trent Bridge ground with a defelt of approximately £800.
Gutes and subscriptions were £401 down. Total expenses were £12,515, against income of £0.802. The an- nual report states it is expected that the special appeal launched last year will realise L0,000.
In preparation for the England v. Austrulla Test approximately £1,000 is to be spent on repairs.
The decline of the team's playing strength is attributed largely to in- juries to arwood, Voce and Butler, the three leading bowlers. It is hoped Voce will have fully recovered from an operation for the removal of a cartilage in his knee by the time the Australians arrive.
The report adds: "It is useless dis guising the fact that until the county can find at least one spin-bowler who is capable of keeping a length, and change-bowlers who can do the like whilst the leading bowlers are rest- ing, we are unlikely to win many | matches."
