The air raid alarm sounded shortly after 8 o'clock this morning, and later several explosions of barnbs were heard in the district near Salchuon by Shameen residents,

At least seven bombs were dropped in districts north-west of Solchuen. No planes were sighted, due to the dult weather conditions, but the roar of engines was nudible.

An official report states that nine Japanese planes participated in this morning's raid, dropping a number of bombs at Shekpai, apparently alming nt the Kowloon-Canton railway. The damage has not yet been as- certained. Reuter.

Canton, Feb. 0.

Japanese air raiders resumed their routine attacks this morning. Two Japanese planes sighted over Tong- kawan proceeded up the river and reached Shluhing on the upper resch of the West River by 0 o'clock. They dropped several bombs near the city and departed. towards Shamshul and Satnam, big commercint towns alon the west River on the Canton-Sham- shui Hailway, where they dropped mure bombs.

On their return flight the Japan- esc nilacked the Canton-Kowloon Raliway at Shektan, dropping Ave bombs.

Later in the morning, the Canton- Kowloon Rallway was again attack- ed by a group of three Japanese bombers. Five bombs were dropped

at Nomkong, and Shekpai loop-ilne.

Canton, Feb. 9. Japanese planes bombed Shek- Jung and Cheungmuklau en the Canton-Kowloon Railway nt 8.30 n.m. to-day. The Shluping station on the Canton-Hankow Railway, 10 mlies north of Canton, was also roid- ed carly to-day,

Walchow, on the East River, and Kucllingshan on the Shihong gorge on the West River were also bombed by Japanese warplanes, although the damage to both places is said to be slight.—International,

Canton, Feb. 9. Canton was shaken by the explo- sion of bombs dropped by Japanese planes on Satchuen, Shekwallong an the west and Shekpal and Chepel in the east yesterday afternoon,

Eleven bombers took part in the ralds. Some of the plañes attempted to come into the city, but the anu- aircraft guna kept them away. After bombing the outskirts the city, the raiding craft bombed Namkong on the Canton-Kowloon Railway, Shlu- tong on the Canten-Samshui Railway and Loktung on the Canton-lankow Railway.

Eight Passengers Lose Lives In Mishap

Mediation Report Ridiculed

Hankow, Feb. 9. Commenting on the report that Great Britain minit mediate in the Sino-Japanese conillel, the Ta Kung Pro, an influentiat vernacular daily here, believed that she will not bring pressure to bear on Ching to agree to unacceptable terms from Japan.

Great Britain, the fournal further says, has no power to change Japan's ambition of conquering China. Know- ing this well, she will not likely medlate in the current hostilities rashly.

"We may safely assert that the re- ported mediation by Great Britain will never materialize. Now that Japan is bent on continuing the hos- tities, any third party overtures will hardly entry weight," the paper concludes.-Central News.

Hunkow, Feb. 9.

The Japanese report that the Chip- ese Government "is approaching the British Government for mediation in the Sino-Japanese conflet" was des- cribed by high Chinese officials "another attempt by the Japanese to create Internal dissension within the Chinese Government."

Chinese circles allege that when the Japanese forces occupied Nan- king rumours were spread by the Japanese that the Chinese Govern- ment was suing for peace.
