In the course of his speech. His Excellency siressed the Importance of air-raid precautions and expressed the hope that the forthcoming arrival of on officer for this purpose would not mislead peopid into Imingining that Hongkong was in grave perll of being raided.

It is true that that pleasure would have been the greater had 1 been accompanied, as we both hoped that I should be, by my wife. It is a deep disappointment to her that she should have had to leave before this evening's Junction but I am well, aware that her absence will be country which is famous throughout the civilised world for the respect which is paid to parents. ENDORSES APPEAL "Secondly, I want to endorse most afrongly the uppenl which the Com- missioner has made to Hongkong for reuter flanelal stapport, I am well aware that this is not the best time for seeking such aid. Nevertheless, I do urge upon all those, who are aware of their duty towards their neighbours or who have a justifiable pride in the great work which the St. Association and John Ambulance Brigale in the Hongkong and Chim' District have done, to give, as Mr. Morris has put it a fuller measure of physical, moral and financial sup- in the year 1916, and he rose rapidly Port to its efforts. "I have two points on which I with

This, of course, is not news to the members i and supporters of the local Ambu-i Ines Association and Brigade, who mer already shown a strent practica! interest in this subject. The point thut I wish to make is that in a mrmth or so there will arrive in this Colony un-Air Raids Precautions Offleur, a man of great experience in the work, whose duty it will be to organise the Colony's Anti-Air- mal programme.
